Tysons Central: Where Stone Meets Skyline – A Fusion of Nature and Modern Design

Tysons Central is a landmark development in the heart of Tysons, Virginia. This 20-story, 370,000-square-foot mixed-use office building stands as a prime example of contemporary urban design. With 12 stories of office space, 19,000 square feet of retail, and both below- and above-grade parking, it is a dynamic hub of activity. Situated at the doorstep of the Greensboro Metro Station, Tysons Central seamlessly integrates work, retail, and public space, offering a truly connected experience.

A signature element of this project is the integration of Natural Facing Chesapeake Roughly Rectangular stone veneer, supplied by Sislers Stone and expertly installed by R. Bratti Masonry. The rich, natural hues of the stone create a stunning contrast with the sleek glass facade, blending organic textures with modern architectural elements. Designed by Gensler Architecture and built by Clark Construction, the project carefully balances aesthetics and functionality.

The amphitheater-style staircase at the northern edge of the site acts as a bridge between the Metro entrance and the development’s central gathering spaces. Flanked by a dramatic stone wall and cascading water feature, this area invites visitors into the space while reinforcing a strong connection between nature and the built environment. The contrast between the warm, textured stone and the sleek, transparent glass wall blurs the boundary between the interior and exterior, creating a welcoming and visually striking pedestrian experience.

Beyond its visual impact, this project required careful logistical planning. With elements sourced globally—including lobby stone from China and escalators from Japan—strategic coordination ensured timely material deliveries despite pandemic-related challenges. The project team’s innovative approach to installation—including the use of a custom monorail system to work around a structural overhang—helped ensure that the project was delivered one month ahead of schedule.

Tysons Central is a shining example of how natural stone veneer can elevate urban spaces, adding warmth, durability, and a timeless aesthetic. By integrating Chesapeake Roughly Rectangular stone into the design, the project achieves a harmonious blend of modern innovation and natural beauty—a defining feature of this transformative development.
